AHMEDABAD: With increasing climate change concerns, Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD) on Saturday launched a project for creating awareness about the use of renewable and non-conventional energy. On the opening day, a workshop involving policy makers, academicians, research institutes, partners from industries, consumer groups and civil society organizations (CSO) was organised at Vikram Sarabhai Centre for Development Interaction (VIKSAT).
The project will be implemented in two states – Gujarat and West Bengal – in partnership with VIKSAT, Ahmedabad and Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) International, Jaipur.
Kartikeya Sarabhai, managing trustee of NFD said, “Education and awareness plays a major role in cutting down on the usage of resources. Textile industries in Ahmedabad have cut down on their water usage with better management and it has come from awareness within the industry.”
During the workshop, members discussed roles of CSO and stakeholders for increasing the usage of renewable sources.
“A simple cleaning of air conditioner grills can help cut down usage by 5 per cent and having regular replacement of pipes in wells can cut down power bill by more than 20 per cent,” said Bhaskar Raval, chief electrical inspector, Gujarat
