CUTS International organised a two day international conference on ‘Competition Policy, Private Sector Development and Poverty Reduction in Africa’, as the culmination of a two year research based advocacy project, popularly referred to as the 7Up3 Project, on 29-30 March 2007, Mauritius. The conference was co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry, Small & Medium Enterprises, Commerce & Cooperatives, Government of Mauritius.

The meeting discussed the realisation of the two-year that this project has been implemented for. It was also traced the path forward towards implementing competition regimes in the project countries by identifying the weaknesses that need to be addressed. The deliberations facilitated an enriched and interactive exchange of varied experiences on competition policy and law, which was linked to the wider policy context of economic development and poverty reduction in the region.

Participants were including representatives from civil society organisations, academicians, experts, regional authorities and competition practitioners from within the region and outside.
