Over the past few decades,there has been a phenomenal increase in the demand for energy in the country due to an impressive growth rate of 8 per cent.Thus,it is important to meet the energy requirements of the existing and emerging industries,and also the growing population.

Participants at a five- day workshop on Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Demand Side Management and Renewable Energy, organized jointly by Vikram Sarabhai Center for Development Interaction (VIKSAT) and CUTS international,thus discussed the need to increase long-term capacity for renewable energy from the demand side.The workshop that concluded on Saturday was attended by 25 participants from 20 different NGOs working in the state.There is a need to educate the population and change their mindset with reference to energy conservation and switching to renewable energy sources, said Kartikeya Sarabhai,one of the speakers.
